Control odor, stop dust and solve transportation problems

Atmos environmental remediation applications

Atmos develops, manufactures and markets specialized applications for aqueous foam technology.

Atmos Shield 645

The primary application for Atmos Shield 645 is control of odors, VOCs and dust during active excavation and for overnight coverage of contaminated soils at hazardous waste sites. Atmos Shield 645 foam concentrate produces a thick, long-lasting foam barrier for immediate suppression of odors, dust and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It can also be applied on liquid surfaces, such as lagoons and retention ponds. Atmos Shield 645 provides superior and immediate emissions control for a period of 24 to 48 hours.

Odor control for challenging problems

The remediation of hazardous waste sites often includes excavation of soil contaminated with odorous compounds.  Atmos Shield 645 is odorless, although a pleasant wintergreen or vanilla scent can also be added. It forms a barrier between contaminants and the atmosphere and can be applied during active excavation to provide an immediate and effective barrier to minimize odors. It is completely PFOS/PFAS-free, biodegradable and poses no threat to workers, neighboring residents or ground water.

Controls fugitive dust

At hazardous waste sites, fugitive dust can present a health hazard. Atmos Shield 645 can be applied on top of the dusty material to prevent any wind-borne emissions. There is no need to mobilize equipment to immediately cover with soil or tarps. The Pneumatic Foam Unit (PFU) can be filled and placed at the site to be used at a moment’s notice.

Solves transportation problems

Atmos Shield 645 can also be applied on top of trucks, railcars and barges for odor and emission control during transport of materials such as contaminated soils or sewage sludge. Ammonia tests performed on trucks containing sewage sludge resulted in a drop of concentration levels from 170 ppm prior to foaming down to 6 ppm after coverage with Atmos Shield 645.

Features

  • Zero PFOS/PFAS
  • Biodegradable
  • Non-Hazardous
  • Non-Reactive
  • Can be used at any ambient temperatures
  • Effective on lagoon and pond closures
  • Can be applied to near vertical or liquid surfaces

Benefits

  • Immediate setup & control of VOCs
  • Requires only water dilution
  • Can vary duration with dilution level
  • No clean-up required
  • Will not add to soil volume or weight

Cleans up emergency spills

In emergency spills, odor and VOC control is often difficult because of the terrain and accident conditions. Atmos Shield 645 can be applied to any shaped object, as well as steep slopes, water, mud, snow and ice. It is non-flammable and non-reactive. Difficult spill problems can be accommodated.

Atmos Shield 645 is supplied in drums, totes or bulk tank trucks and designed to be applied with Atmos’ PFUs. The PFUs are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate a range of site conditions and application needs.

Atmos Seal 900 Series

Atmos Seal 900 Series long-duration foams produce an impermeable, flexible membrane that seals a surface to prevent the release of emissions.  Atmos Seal 900 is latex-based and, once cured, forms a continuous flexible membrane that adheres to the surface for long-term control (up to 6 months) of odors, dust, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

The Atmos Seal 900 Series foam products utilize foam as a distribution method for latex. After the foam has been applied, the air bubbles begin to collapse, and the latex coagulates to form a continuous flexible membrane that adheres to the substrate. This biodegradable membrane seals the surface and prevents dust and emissions for a duration of three weeks up to six months depending on product selection.

The Atmos Seal 900 Series foams are recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, state agencies and major corporations as providing superior odor and emission control for periods up to six months. This Series of foams have been specified for use at Superfund and other hazardous waste sites across the United States, Canada and elsewhere in the world.

The primary application for Atmos Seal 900 Series is control of odors, VOCs and dust during transportation and medium to long term stockpiling of contaminated soils at hazardous waste sites. Atmos Seal 900 Series can also be applied on liquid surfaces, such as lagoons and retention ponds for long-term control of odors and emissions.
